Day #3 Alleluia Church Team - New Hope Academy, Home for the Sick & Dying Babies & a bit of shopping

Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.  |  Matthew 5:8

Today was a full day - with sightings of God's blessings everywhere.  We started off the morning heading down the street to shop from the local artisans.  They were happy to show us the skills of their hands, and our team was happy to support the local community.  Next up was Peace Cycle - what a blessing that organization has been to Haiti!  Each employee is taught to stand on 2 legs, Peace Cycle being one...and for most - owning their own business as another.  It was inspiring to hear each Haitian employee - partially in English! :) - tell us about their job at Peace Cycle (they recycle plastic water bags, making all sort of totes, bags, purses, etc.), and then about themselves.  What dreams they have for themselves, with their job paying them dignified wages helping make that dream a reality!

Our next stop was a new one for all of us, New Hope Academy.  We shared the story of Creation with about 30 children - with each listening attentively, and one child sharing with us his favorite part was simply 'God creating everything'.  Children of all ages were eager to hear the word of God and spend the morning with us.  After a few crafts, lunch and some play time - each of us were blessed to see the hope for their futures, and see the start of an organization grow - helping those children stay off the streets.  Next up was Papillon (Butterfly in Creole) - an amazing organization employing SO MANY.  After a quick tour of the production side, we witnessed first hand the love the employees have for an organization that gives them opportunity to earn a wage to keep their families together.  It was easy for each of us to support them at their shop, bringing home items we saw them make in front of us.

We finished out our day at the Home of the Sick & Dying Babies.  Each of us experienced a full range of emotions - staring into the eyes of the children throughout the afternoon there.  For many of us, heartbreak as we walked into the one of the rooms hearing the children cry or holding them in our arms.  So many children to love and hold close can be overwhelming at times....but there is also that rewarding feeling - because each of us are here for a reason.  God called each of us here to be in this place together.  To let all the things that life throws at us to be set aside - to just be here in that moment focusing on that child in our arms, knowing we are doing enough.

Everyone that comes here leaves a part of their heart in Haiti.  And when we go back, we must process so many emotions - and one of them can be grief.  Grief because we cannot unsee what we have seen, because we are forever changed, and even in a way, we may in a way grieve for our old life.  But also such love - love for Healing Haiti and the impact they are making here.  And joy - joy that each of us is a part of that miracle of Healing Haiti created so many years ago.  So come and see.  Come and see the miracle happening in Haiti.

Day #2 Alleluia Church - Water truck & farm tour

Day #2 Alleluia Church Team

Revelation 22:1 then states; "And he showed me a river of water of life, bright as a crystal, proceeding out of the Lamb" ... to the thirsty I will freely give from the fountain of the water of life. ... if any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink.

Our teams words of the day: desperation, humility, exhaustion, perseverance, water, longing, hope, and blessed

Today included 3 amazingly eye opening and life changing water trunk stops and tours of Hope Village and Fleri Farm. To give you a little better perspective, City Soliel, a portion of Port-au-Prince has 300,000 people in 4 square miles. The water truck stops and our interaction with the Haitian people were experiences of the heart, mind, and body. The moment you get off the tap tap (our form of transportation) children's arms were in the air reaching up to be held. Hoping to steal a moment of our time and affection. Little did they know the lasting impression they left on our hearts. We were either carrying buckets or babies. It was absolutely amazing to see the physical strength of the Haitian people. There were girls around 12 years old carrying 5 gallon buckets of water on their heads all by themselves. Also, the children and babies themselves were incredibly strong as they climbed on all of us like jungle gyms, especially Troy and Adam. During our day, we also stopped at Hope Village which includes a school, clinic, and church which have been built by Healing Haiti. Approximately 60 feet of trash was removed in order to build Hope Village on solid ground. It is a true gift from God. One highlight so far was Carol getting the opportunity to reunite with Venel, a boy who came to stay with her and her family to play soccer. We also made a stop and saw Fleri Farms, which is growing multiple different crops like mangos, pomegranates, papaya to name a few and has some great future plans for the surrounding community.

Healing Haiti is doing amazing things! We are so blessed to be apart of this experience!

DAY #1 Alleluia Church Team - Arrival

Day 1 Arrival in PAP

After much anticipation we have finally landed in Haiti!! For me this brings feelings of great relaxation. Leading up to the trip I had a lot different thoughts running through my head. What will this trip look like? Will I get along with the team? I am the odd man out being the only goer not from Minnesota. :) That feeling quickly went away when were finally all together. God brings people together for reasons beyond our understanding. We all come on these trips for different reasons. Some of us have been to Haiti before and some it is our first trip. We all bring different strengths but form one body. We need to trust in God and that he will provide the wisdom and protection for the week ahead. Our faith will be tested as we step out of our comfort zone. As long as we concentrate on the person in front of us and let the holy spirit guide is all will be fine. All God's promises are places of refuge, fortresses where we may flee when we feel week.

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. (Psalm 62:1-2)

More to come tomorrow. Glwa Pou Bondye

DAY #6 WOODRIDGE CHURCH BLOG

Today our team got to go to Pastor Wesley's feeding center in Titanya (a little town that is literally translated as "less than nothing").  Pastor Wesley opens his home and yard every Saturday to children from all over the little town.  This morning there were 130 kids that showed up.  They sing, hear the gospel, play games and are given a meal prepared by Pastor Wesley's wife and sister-in-law.  It is such a wonderful ministry and we were absolutely honored to be a part of it today!

DAY #5 WOODRIDGE CHURCH BLOG

Today we visited an amazing non-profit called Rebuild Globally.  They turn tires into all kinds of amazing things like shoes, bags and jewelry.  After that we shopped at a place called Papillion (which means butterfly) and visited the amazing place where many Haitians are employed.  They were making beads out of cereal boxes, lots of different things out of clay and sewing dolls & headbands.
We spent the afternoon at Lapharre orphanage where we got to see kids that some of us have seen grow up over the years and we played some intense basketball and soccer games!
We laughed a lot as a team today and we are so thankful that our youngest team member is no longer dealing with strep throat thanks to God providing medicine for our team!
